Mahabodhi Peace Walk Promotes Message of Harmony through streets of London
London, March 30, 2025

The Mahabodhi Peace Walk, organised by the Mahabodhi Temple (Vihara) Support Group UK, traversed the heart of London yesterday, fostering a spirit of peace and unity. Approximately 300 Dhamma followers from diverse nationalities, including esteemed Buddhist monks, walked for peace, to express their solidarity for the Bodhgaya’s Mahabodhi Mahavihar campaign and its cultural preservation.
The peaceful procession began at the Hyde Park, weaveing through London’s iconic landmarks- Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, and the politically significant Parliament Square -ultimately reaching the High Commission of India. Venerable Bhante Kassapa led the march, administering the triple gems with five precepts and delivering a discourse emphasising the significance of upholding the noble cause of preserving the sacred Mahabodhi Mahavihar cultural heritage.

What made the event truly remarkable was its inclusive nature-participation of many groups under single platform. Dhamma followers travelled from across the United Kingdom, some undertaking considerable journeys to participate. with children walking alongside senior practitioners, while British Buddhists joined hands with those from various cultural backgrounds—creating a living testament to the universal appeal of Buddha’s teachings of compassion and understanding. A pivotal moment of the day witnessed the presentation of a heartfelt petition to the Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street, urging his support for global peace and harmony by supporting Mahabodhi campaign.

The Mahabodhi Peace Walk served as a compelling reminder of Buddha’s teaching of harmony and non-violence. Participants unitedly expressed their aspirations and demands for complete Buddhist control over the Mahabodhi Mahavihar for its rightful upkeep and restoration, for a more peaceful world inspired by the collective spirit of benevolence and solidarity.
The event was made possible through the dedicated efforts of the Mahabodhi Temple (Vihara) Support Group UK volunteers, whose unwavering commitment ensured the success of the walk. The organising committee extends profound gratitude to everyone who contributed to this meaningful demonstration of collective compassion and unity and made this peace march a resounding success in communicating the requirement of Buddhist stewardship at the Mahabothi Temple.
