Ambedkarism in a nutshell

What is Ambedkarism?

Ambedkar thinkers have given great and detailed explanations of what Ambedkarism is. The problem is, many people are looking for brief standardised explanations and precise definitions.

They have valid reasons. One reason being that, it is much easier for Ambedkarites to be united if the common purpose is understood by all and the main foundations of ‘Ambedkar Thought’ are laid out in a simple, easy to understand and logical manner. It is best to have “standard answers” to frequently asked “standard questions”.

Following answer is one such attempt to answer the question, “In a nutshell, what is Ambedkarism?”

Any ‘ism’ is simply the philosophy/thought of the person (or group) after whom the philosophy is named.

In a nutshell,

AMBEDKARISM IS;

a) AT A PERSONAL LEVEL, a human centred way of life, aimed at reduction of suffering in a selfless (unselfish), rational and ethical manner, free of dogma and superstition.

b) AT A UNIVERSAL LEVEL, a human centred way of life aimed at reduction of suffering and injustice in society with a focus on social justice in a rational and ethical manner, free of dogma and superstition.

The Root of Ambedkarism

Ambedkarism, the thought/philosophy of Dr B.R Ambedkar stems from his belief that..
The ultimate aim of human existence should be the cultivation (and therefore expansion) of mind, developing the human being, leading to manifestation of liberty, equality, fraternity and social justice in society.

A Logical Inference:

In the long run liberty, equality and fraternity; the ideals of Ambedkarism are impossible in a caste (Jati and Varna) based society. Anything that hinders the cultivation of mind at the personal level and ‘liberty, equality, fraternity’ at the societal level is anti-Ambedkarism. That includes caste (Jati and Varna) identities too.

CONCLUSION:

Thus the primary aim of an AMBEDKARITE, the follower of Ambedkarism, becomes complete ANNIHILATION OF CASTE (JATI and/or VARNA). This is a two fold procedure.

A) Firstly by annihilating caste from within, shedding one’s own jati and Varna identity, becoming totally casteless.

and then,

B) Propagating the same in society encouraging others to annihilate THEIR caste identities.
